Salt Lake City, UT (Good Things Utah) – Roofing jobs aren’t just for men! The shortage of roofing labor means we need more people to use their hands-on skills to provide roofs for the people in our community. Annmarie Ballard from All-Women’s Roofing Academy joined us today to discuss why it’s so important for women to break into this space and how to do it!

GAF hosts Roofing Academy women-only training in Utah. This is a free training program developed by GAF, the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. They are designed to help individuals, particularly from under-represented or disadvantaged groups, acquire the skills necessary for an entry-level position in the roofing industry.

GAF combines classroom and hands-on training to teach these individuals the basics of commercial roofing. They provide them with marketable skills and access to the GAF network of certified contractors, leaving individuals well-equipped to re-enter society and pursue potential career opportunities.

Since the program began in 2020, GAF has enrolled more than 2,000 participants and placed more than 76% of them in jobs. Currently, only 3% of roofers are women. At the GAF Roofing Academy last year, 13% of participants were women.

Beginning July 17th, GAF will be holding a roofing training course for all women in Draper, UT. More information can be found here. Follow them on social media @GAFroofing to see what you could be involved with!
