LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Phone calls and inquiries swamped roofing companies across the valley after strong windstorms blew through the valley in early March.

Most of the wind damage happened to residential prosperities where many were left picking up the pieces, downed trees, and damaged roofs.

Daniel Barron at Rhino Roofing and their team have a backlog of places to get to as it is their busiest time of year.

“When I wake up in the morning and see those palm trees swaying side to side, I know it’s probably not a good time,” he explained.

When the weather is good, they work as much as they can to get caught up. The most common issue they said is water leaking in through the roof, which if not fixed right away can be costly.

“Damaging the floor, to your property and couches,” Barron explained. “Then it’s going to involve quite a few contractors versus just your roofing to get the whole situation taken care of.”

Most of the wind damage calls are from homes with older three-tab shingles which don’t do well in windy weather.

“If you get an old roof and you get wind underneath it, it’s going to tear it right off.”

The weather can also stop them from getting projects completed. For their own safety, they do not do repairs when gusts get above 15 miles per hour or when it starts to rain heavily.

Barron suggested visually inspecting your roof frequently from a safe distance, but letting the professionals climb up. He said you can always call to get an inspection of your roof. He suggested looking at your insurance to see if they cover damage to your roof.
