Tree “Avery” Nicole Crane

2005 – 2023

South Jordan, UT-August 16, 2005 – August 26, 2023

On August 26, 2023, our beloved Tree Crane went to sleep on his dorm bed in Greely, Colorado and never woke up. The love and devastation of his loss is beyond measure. On Tree’s much-anticipated 18th birthday on August 16th, Tree paraded around town to visit his parents, grandparents, sisters, and friends before heading off the next day to pursue his unwavering dream of going to college to become a doctor. Tree was extremely intelligent, diligent, artistic, spirited, generous, funny, kind, brave, protective, wise beyond his years and “the best child anyone could ask for”. He had a great sense of humor, a beautiful voice for singing, and a loud and proud voice for individuality and human rights. He used that voice to win many medals and to qualify for the High School National Speech and Debate Tournament two years in a row. He was also chosen to speak at Salt Lake Community College graduation program for the 2022 summer medical program for high school students. He chose to speak first because “I want them to be awake and to hear what I have to say”. The other students in the program flocked to Tree after the ceremony.

Tree is survived by his parents Douglas Crane Jr (Melissa Vetter), and Nicole Crane, his sisters Monikka Walton (Grant), Kennedy Crane (Trystan), his grandparents Douglas and Nancy Crane Sr and Bob and Marie Freudenberger, JoAnn Shepard, Miles Shepard, and his great grandmother Gloria Keller. His adored nieces and nephews Haytham, Layla, Zayde, Sylas, Ziggy, Bear, and Golden. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the University of Northern Colorado for their extreme kindness and help during this most unbearably painful time. His college dream will not be fulfilled but “once a Bear always a Bear”. UNC will be commemorating his life with a ceremony and planting a Tree in his name. Tree would be ecstatic.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 9th at Premier Funeral Services 67 East 8000 South Salt Lake City from 4 to 8 pm
