PARSIPPANY, NJ — Parsippany Police are investigating a reported scam, where people are falsely claiming to be a tree-removal service for the township.

Officials ask anyone who is approached by these solicitors to notify Parsippany PD immediately, and provide their best description of what the people look like and what vehicle they are in.

These scammers claim to be performing tree-cutting services on behalf of the township for properties that are “likely to be condemned,” officials said.

“They are accepting money and not returning to perform the service,” police said of the suspects.

In most cases, solicitors are required to get a license through Town Hall and display it while they are out in the community.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Parks & Forestry Department only contracts outside companies for trees that specifically belong to the township, officials said.

“Although some Township trees may be located on residential property, the private company would not request payment for services,” police continued. “Should you be approached by these solicitors, please notify us immediately and try to obtain any descriptive information of the suspects and their vehicles.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany Police Department’s Investigative Branch at 973-263-4300.
