Victory Tree to be preserved

While accepting Council’s directive not to remove the tree from the site, Mr James did not accept Council’s assertion that the tree was ‘contaminated’.

He continued to work with the private landowner and the arborist, who were both cooperative and helpful. This afternoon (Thursday, 21 March), he was given the news that the tree trunk had been saved from fiery destruction.

“The owner gave me the tree trunk but the Council told me I couldn’t remove it from the site. The contractor Aura Tree Services removed the tree trunk from the site and took it to a place for suspect vegetation, where it was going to be burned.

“I spoke to Aura, and I was put onto a lovely bloke who was a Director, and told him the story. He said he would see what he could do. About 3.15pm this afternoon he called me and said, ‘Good news, we have it and we’ll bring it back’.

“Council were pretty helpful too because they said I could put it in the quarry at Ingleside, because it needs to be trimmed and turned into planks. Aura said they would take it direct to the mill to get cut up,” said Mr James.
