CHANDLER, Ariz. – Learn the tree-mendous benefits of trees, and take one home for free, at Chandler’s Arbor Day celebration. This family-friendly event will be held at the Chandler Nature Center at Veterans Oasis Park on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is free.
“Arbor Day is an ideal time to introduce Chandler residents to the city’s urban forestry program and provide more trees to shade our community,” said Ryan McCartney, Urban Forester. “The city’s focus on urban forestry aims to promote a safe, healthy and diverse urban forest by preserving, managing and enhancing tree resources while promoting active community participation through public education and outreach. While Arbor Day is typically observed in late April, the timing of Chandler’s event coincides with an optimal time to plant trees in the low desert environment.”
Free low-water-use native trees will be given away to Chandler residents on a first come, first served basis (one per household while supplies last). Residents will receive a ticket redeemable for a free five-gallon tree with proof of Chandler residency (driver’s license, state ID or utility bill). Trees will be provided by Treeland Nursery.
City of Chandler Parks staff will plant five trees in the park to demonstrate proper tree-planting techniques. Attendees can also visit with vendors that provide tree and landscape services.
Chandler Nature Center is located in Veterans Oasis Park, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road.
