No matter how well designed a bathroom is, it’s still one of the most common rooms where unpleasant odors can accumulate. To get rid of them, many often opt for commercial cleaning sprays, but these leave a thick chemical residue in the air. Instead, experienced plumbing experts from Caccia Plumbing have presented three natural methods that households can use.

Before the smell is eliminated, the experts must first determine where the smell is coming from and what the cause is.

When the bathroom smells a little musty, this is usually due to mold and fungi in the room. This is common in humid areas.

The plumbing pros explained, “The bathroom is a haven for fungus because there is always a water source and many bathrooms do not have adequate ventilation to allow all moisture to evaporate.”

However, if the bathroom smells strongly of rotten eggs, it’s probably a sign of light sulfur fumes. This could be due to a plumbing problem in the toilet.

Once the problem is identified, it’s time to find a solution – ventilating is a good place to start before doing anything else

Households should open all windows and let in fresh air to reduce some of the odor.

The sanitation experts urged: “Avoid using scented products such as air fresheners or candles as this will only exacerbate the problem.”

Three natural ingredients to remove odors

1. Baking soda

Eliminating existing odors is easy when homes have the right ingredients, which include baking soda as it “can actually absorb bad smells.”

To remove bad odors with baking soda, fill a container with baking soda and leave it open in the bathroom.

The expert said, “Baking soda’s neutralizing element absorbs and banishes that foul odor you’re trying to get rid of.”

However, it is important to throw out and replace the baking soda about once a month and it will ensure that you are effectively neutralizing your bathroom odors.

2. Essential Oils

Essential oils are often used to diffuse stunning scents throughout the home, and are also great in the bathroom to remove odors.

The sanitation experts said: “Essential oils can create a great natural aroma in your bathroom.

“These natural, aromatic liquids are called ‘essential’ because they smell like the ‘essence’ of the plant from which they are derived.”

Essential oils are typically used to make perfumes, soaps, candles, and even incense. Most home fragrance diffusers use essential oils as the active ingredient.

There are a lot of identified essential oils out there, leaving homes with many great smells to choose from.

3. Eucalyptus plants

The leaves of eucalyptus plants have a peculiar, pleasant smell, similar to pine or mint. This makes them ideal for removing odors in the bathroom.

The experts said, “Eucalyptus leaves have a high concentration of oil in their leaves, so naturally they smell great.”

The plumbing gurus claimed that hanging the plant in the bathroom is an “affordable, low-maintenance way to deodorize your bathroom.”

Not only can it remove odors, but the soothing, refreshing scent is helpful to unwind after a long and stressful day.
