Many devices continue to use energy even when they are switched off. So if you unplug the power cord while the family is on vacation, you can avoid potential fire hazards.
- Turn off the light. Make sure all the lights in the house are off before you go on vacation. An even better option is to set up a few lights with a timer so some come on at night. This deters burglars, but still saves homeowners money as no lights are turned on during daylight hours.
