Yarra Junction man killed when car smashes into tree in Coldstream

A motorist was killed when he crashed into a tree in Coldstream, Greater Melbourne on Saturday.

According to police, the Yarra Junction man pulled onto the wrong side of the road before his car hit a tree and crashed into another.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident on Killara Road just before 1pm and took the man to hospital, where he later died.

The front passenger, a 27-year-old from Yarra Junction, and the rear passenger, a 12-year-old man, also from the same city, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident.

A total of 131 people have died on Victorian roads this year.
