PONDA: Consider this irony: the Ponda Taluka has four ministers in a 12-member cabinet, yet the Taluka craves a full-fledged, high-quality bus stand.
Angered by the pitiful condition of the bus stand, POnda residents have given a 15-day deadline for the KTC bus stand to be covered or risk unrest during the monsoon season.
Locals pointed out that without a shelter for the KTC bus stand, commuters have been in hardship for a year.
Ponda residents, including leaders of the Goa Forward Party, protested today, criticizing the government for failing to complete renovations at the Ponda KTC bus station, which has been in a sorry state for a year.
Goa Forward leader Durgadas Kamat, Ponda social worker Viraj Sapre and PoP leader Pramod Sawant briefed the media on the utter failure of the government.
Durgadas Kamat said the government should hold an event to cover the KTC bus stand.
He said that if the government organized an event worth 1 or 2 crore rupees at the KTC bus station, the canopy would help the KTC bus station.
He condemned and protested the worst conditions and incomplete renovations at the KTC bus station and also warned against protesting when it rains. He criticized four ministers for not completing the outstanding work on the KTC Bus Stand.
Kamat said he wrote to the Secretary-General in a deplorable state.
He said the IMD had forecast heavy rains for the next few days.
“Students and commuters use bus stops and it would be difficult for them to stand in this rain. The repair work lasted only fifteen days, but unfortunately this is not the priority of our ministers,” he said.
He said the sad thing is that the four ministers of Ponda Taluka also didn’t care about the people.
“Despite the letters, there are no measures. The chairman asks us to speak to MD. Who should we meet now?” he asked.
Kamat suggested that a Krishi Mahotsav-like event could provide shade for the KTC bus stand.
“CM should run an event like Janata Malamal,” he quipped.
He added that the pace of work is slower than IPL cricket slow-motion replay.
He said Goa forward MLA Vijai Sardesai will raise the issue in the July assembly session if the work is not completed.
Viraj Sapre said nine months had passed and highlighted the problem.
“Roads in Ponda are collapsing, no one is following the guideline. The four ministers serve only the namesake. At least one minister should have visited the KTC bus stand. They are chosen by people who are suffering now. When it starts raining, the streets will be flooded,” he said.
Pramod Sawant said he was linked to NGOs such as Road Safety and POP.
He said there was no politics and they came together in the public interest.
He questioned pothole repairs, the lack of streetlights at the KTC bus stand and why ministers couldn’t hear people’s voices.
He also criticized the digging up of roads during monsoons.
