HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM)– Progress for opening the Broad Street Market tent may be moving forward soon after the city held a pre-bid meeting.

The meeting for the pre-bids was held on Wednesday morning at the tent for possible plumbing contractors, a spokesperson for the city of Harrisburg wrote in an email. A plumbing company at the meeting and a representative from Gordian, a job order contracting service provider, were at the meeting.

The hope is that Gordian will be able to work with one of their plumbing contractors through the Keystone Purchasing Network to submit a proposal, the spokesperson wrote.

Just because there were businesses at the meeting does not mean that work will certainly start because they can back out.

“There is no guarantee this will happen, so it is possible that one – or both – will back out and not submit,” the spokesperson wrote. “However, we are hopeful this will not happen.”

Earlier this month during a board meeting, vendors discovered that the funds for the Broad Street Market are quickly diminishing and that the place only has enough money to stay open for another month since the devasting fire in July. To fix this, the board planned to raise the rent for vendors, but it was later decided to suspend raising it.

For the electricity, the city is working on finalizing a contract with KCS Electric LLC, the spokesperson wrote.

The deadline for bids is Jan. 25 at 11 p.m., and the next day the city plans to unseal them.
