DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — The first step to renovating the Houston County Farm Center could begin in the next few months.

The Houston County Commission has chosen Marty Robbins as the bidder for the roofing project — the bid came in at just over $960,000.

Replacing the roof is the priority for the project due to the current leaking problems.

The current roof dates back to the 90’s and the county says it needs replacing.

Since the current roof suffered damage, the county will be getting one million dollars in insurance that will cover the project.

This roof will be made out of standing seam metal that will last about 50 years.

“We will be able to do the other renovations along with the reroofing project, so we’re hoping that next year we will have a brand new farm center and it will be something that everybody is excited about and we will reveal the plan on Tuesday.”

Work could start immediately after it’s approved on Tuesday but Shoupe expects it to take a little longer to begin so they can order the materials.
