Newington firefighters said a tree fell on top of a state trooper patrol vehicle due to storms Thursday night.

Connecticut State Police said an on-duty trooper was in the area of the Cedar Street Fastrak Station when his vehicle was damaged by a falling tree. As a result, the car doors couldn’t be opened.

The trooper and his K9, who was also in the vehicle, were not hurt.

The fire department freed the trooper and K9 by prying a door of the vehicle open. The police car has since been towed from the scene.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation noted that this occurred at the end of the busway and likely wouldn’t impact services.

No additional information was immediately available.
