Debris cleanup continues three weeks after the ice storm that wreaked havoc on our community.

Zack Bryan of Loyal Tree Care, a tree service company, says he’s getting many calls and new clients.

He says most of his calls are for debris cleanup in Springfield.

He thinks the large volume of calls will continue for another few months.

Bryan believes he’s made tens of thousands of extra dollars this month, which will support his two employees and his own family.

“Volume has increased 200 full, 200 percent– most of the work for the tree services is residential private houses,” Bryan explains. “So it’s helping us build our firms in a sense. I have a family, a wife, and three kids, its helping in many, many ways. Many people, not just myself.”

But aside from the economic impact, there’s the emotion of losing something that’s been on your property for years.

The person who owned this tree says he planted it more than 50 years ago and remembers watching his wife read under the branches as it grew.

For people tackling the cleanup on their own, he recommends you evaluate the fallen debris before you handle it yourself — and if it’s bigger than 15 inches in diameter, to call a professional.

We also spoke with Devon Ashbridge, public information officer for Lane County, who said in part:

Our crews will be working for months on the branches and downed trees that are alongside county-maintained roads in the right of way.

We will continue to update you on debris cleanup as we learn more.
