On Tuesday evening, the map showed the number of residents and businesses affected by outages had lightened compared to earlier in the day. As of 9:25 p.m., the number of affected customers was around 1,000.

Overnight, electricity was gradually restored for customers in several parts of the city, so that at 7:39 a.m. on Wednesday, around 30 customers were without electricity. Ten customers were left without service until around 3 p.m

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday, a fallen tree crashed into a one-story home on the 200 block of Middlefield Road, where Palo Alto firefighters were called to rescue two people trapped inside, according to emergency response reports.

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin McNally said residents of the home were not injured. They were able to leave the house through the back door while emergency services secured the utility lines and cordoned off Middlefield. Building inspectors later arrived to inspect the house.

“The amount of damage was significant,” he said. “Parts of the roof structure were torn and destroyed.”

Caltrain drivers also suffered hour-long delays on Tuesday because trees blocked the train tracks, the agency said on Twitter. At 1 p.m., rail passenger services began hourly train operations. Normal operations resumed on Wednesday morning.

And just after 3 p.m. Tuesday, the Palo Alto Police Department announced that Embarcadero Road was closed in both directions from Bryant Street to Kingsley Avenue due to fallen wires and fallen trees. The road remained closed Wednesday morning, causing traffic jams in the Professorville and Old Palo Alto neighborhoods, and reopened around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The westbound Oregon Expressway at Bryant Street was closed during Tuesday night’s commute to allow teams to clear tree debris from the lanes.

Power outages were also reported throughout the Bay Area. More than 155,000 PG&E customers in the Bay Area were without power early Tuesday afternoon, most of them in the South Bay and East Bay. As of the afternoon, just over 64,000 PG&E customers were without power in San Mateo County and 60% of the outages were forecast to be fixed in about a day, the city of Atherton reported. More than 5,000 customers groped in the dark on the Midpeninsula in Mountain View. Over 3,500 customers were without power in an area stretching west of El Camino Real in Atherton to the Emerald Lake Hills area in Redwood City. The outage was caused by weather with no estimated recovery time given. The outages in Redwood City appeared to primarily affect residents west of El Camino Real. Nearly 1,800 customers at West Menlo Park lost power just before 12:30 p.m., with an estimated time of recovery to be announced. Another approximately 2,000 customers at West Menlo Park were affected by three separate outages.

Fallen trees were found across the city throughout the day, according to emergency reports. One was reported this morning on the Stanford University campus on Galvez Street near Arboretum Road. Around noon, another tree fell on Page Mill Road between Deer Creek and Coyote Hill streets.

A high wind warning was in effect throughout the Bay Area through 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The police were aware of the local failures. According to a Nixle alert, the agency urged the municipality not to call 911 or non-emergency numbers for police and fire departments to report the outage or ask questions about the service disruption. Police advised the public to consult the Ministry of Supply’s Twitter account and map of blackouts.
