The linden oak, which existed before the American Revolution, was felled and removed on Tuesday.
A county forestry team cut down the tree from top to bottom and outside in using chainsaws and wood chippers.
The crew had to use a crane and a sky shovel to get to the top of the towering tree, which was about 30 meters tall in its prime.
A 12-foot tree stump remains, a reminder of the tree that died in 2022 and served as a quintessential storyline for many members of the community. [WTOP News]
Montgomery College is hosting a community job fair on Wednesday
Montgomery County is hosting a municipal job fair on its Rockville campus today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place in the gym of the Physical Education Building.
Over 70 companies will be represented, including the Montgomery County Police Department, the Montgomery County Government, the US Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Washington Commanders.
The flyer for the event stated that career seekers should “dress for success”.
The college will also host a job fair for Montgomery County Public Schools on its Rockville campus in August. [Montgomery Community Media]
Montgomery Parks celebrates Latino Conservation Week with a series of events
Montgomery Parks is hosting events for the tenth annual Latino Conservation Week from July 15-23.
This week was started in 2014 by the Hispanic Access Foundation to encourage Latinos in the area to come together to protect natural resources and enjoy the great outdoors.
Upcoming events include Kayak Clean-Up at Lake Needwood on July 19th and Nature Walks at Brookside Gardens on July 21st and 22nd. [DC News Now]
