It was quite a week in girls volleyball, with so many big performances on the court that selecting five nominees for this week’s Storm Works Roofing & Restoration Athlete of the Week was no easy task.

Heading into the home stretch of the fall regular season, we’re seeing teams stake their claim atop the four division. In Div. I, North Kingstown is setting the pace at 9-1, but La Salle, Portsmouth, Chariho and Coventry are hot on the Skippers’ heels.

In Div. II, Cumberland and East Providence remain unbeaten in conference play, with Mt. Hope and Barrington just a few games off the pace. Div. III’s leader is still unbeaten Tolman (8-0), with Juanita Sanchez and Burrillville close behind. And in Div. IV, Shea’s record remains unblemished at 10-0 with Blackstone Valley Prep right behind.

Thanks again to the dedicated coaches who keep us posted on the wins, losses and big performances in girls high school volleyball. As a reminder, please email pjsports@providencejournal.com or call us (between 6 and 10 p.m.) at (401) 277-7340. Now, here are this week’s nominees.

Taliyah Pereira, Classical

The Purple senior recorded 16 kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 victory over Portsmouth in last week’s Division I crossover., proving that despite its record (3-6), Classical is capable of knocking off the top contenders in the conference on any given night.

Kasey Dillon, Barrington

The Eagles senior outside hitter had 16 kills, 4 aces and 5 digs in Barrington’s 3-1 victory over Westerly in Division II last week, helping to keep Barrington in the chase. The Eagles trail division-leading Cumberland and East Providence by 2 games.

Bridgitt O’Sullivan-Van Etten, Cumberland

Grace Iannuzzi, Cumberland

With players like O’Sullivan-Van Etten and Iannuzzi, it’s not hard to see why Cumberland enters this week at 9-0, tied with East Providence atop Division II. The pair of Clipper seniors each recorded 14 kills in a hard-fought 3-2 win over Bay View last week.

Grace Iannuzzi, Cumberland girls volleyball

Danna Almonte Garcia, Central

The Knight may not be having the season they’d hoped for (3-5) in Division III, but with players like Garcia, they’re always in the fight. Central’s junior led her team with 14 kills and 10 aces in a 3-2 victory over Narragansett last week.
