The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) is offering ‘mini master classes’ on roofing slates at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh.

NFRC members Compass Roofing and Taylor Roofs gave visitors of all ages the opportunity to carve and attach a slab of slate to a roofing structure and ask questions about the roofing industry.

Two apprentices who won the NFRC Scottish Apprentice of the Year award are among those helping to introduce people to the roofing profession at the event, which draws tens of thousands of visitors.

At other stands, visitors can try stone carving, 3D and thermal surveying, and clay brick making.

Scott Miller, NFRC Scotland Chairman said: “NFRC is delighted to be back at the Royal Highland Show to offer a mini master class on roofing slate design for all interested parties. Even though the week is very busy, it is a lot of fun as many people ask for information about roofing jobs.

“These events are just part of a much larger school outreach program where NFRC in Scotland is promoting construction as a career choice for young people across Scotland as we seek to bring positive change to the skills shortage across the construction industry.”
