ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A Roanoke veteran has a new roof over his head thanks to local roofing company.

Michael Turpin served six years in the Marines with two years being on active duty. He is described as a devoted family man who continues to make sacrifices for others.

However, Turpin was in need himself when his roof began to leak and needed to be repaired.

“This roof on this house was 40 years old and leaking inside and it gave us the opportunity to get a brand new roof put on there to stop all the leaks,” described Turpin.

On Monday, the Mason Company Roofing built Turpin a new roof for free as part of their new Roofs for Troops program.

Turpin expressed his gratitude for the program and it’s impact on veterans. “Being recognized is a good thing, it helps the veterans. There’s a lot of veterans out there that need some help and I’m just glad they helped us. It means a lot.”

“We were able to complete our first Roof for Troops of hopefully many more to come. Thank you Mr. Turpin for your service and a big thank you to our team and GAF Roofing for making this possible,” the company said in a Facebook post.
