City Plumbing and Teenage Cancer Trust celebrate a remarkable milestone after funds raised through their partnership reached a magical £3million. That’s enough to fund 100,000 hours of caregiving and is the result of countless hours donated by employees at the leading heating and plumbing retailer.

City Plumbing has supported the Teenage Cancer Trust since 2012, making it one of the charity’s oldest ‘Charity of the Year’ partnerships. During that time, employees across the company have raised money through a variety of fundraisers—from hikes and climbs to bike rides, tough mudders, hikes, walks and marathons. One even got the Teenage Cancer Trust logo tattooed on his body to raise funds!

Dave Evans, CEO of Highbourne Group, City Plumbing’s parent company, said:

“It was remarkable to see so many people getting involved and inspired to raise money for a charity that we all believe in. We first started the partnership 11 years ago by asking colleagues to vote for the charity they wanted to donate to, and it brought everyone across the company together. We’re so proud to have raised £3million so far – and judging by the commitment of everyone I speak to, I’m sure that number will continue to grow. A big thank you to everyone and especially to our friends at the Teenage Cancer Trust who inspire us every day with their work. It was a true team effort for a cause that is now close to our hearts and we are determined to aim even higher for the future.”

There is no doubt that the money raised is needed. Municipal sanitary facilitiesEvery day in the UK, seven young people aged 13 to 24 hear the words ‘you have cancer’. They all need specific care and support to get through and Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need.

dr Louise Soanes, Head Nurse at Teenage Cancer Trust said:

“On behalf of all the Teenage Cancer Trust caregivers, we would like to say a big and heartfelt thank you to City Plumbing for the fundraiser. With the money raised, we could provide over 100,000 hours of care to young people with cancer, to help them navigate the trauma of a diagnosis and to ensure they are cared for during treatment. Raising such a large sum of money is an incredible achievement and will make a huge difference to so many.”

Paul McKenzie, Director of Engagement, Teenage Cancer Trust added:

“We are so grateful to the City Plumbing team for their incredible commitment and everyone should be very proud as we reach the £3million milestone.” The money raised has helped so many young people and families with cancer through the toughest times imaginable and we cannot thank them enough for the incredible difference they have made. I see and hear the real change that support makes possible every day.”

The year’s top charity activists include Pam McCulloch, Mike Church, Linda Graham and Wayne Shepherd, all of whom did their best to raise money.

Regional Manager Mike Church, for example, won the Charity Hero award last year after completing an ‘Ulti-Mike Challenge’ in which he ran progressively longer distances throughout the year – culminating in a 72-mile run from Bognor to Poole. The latitude of its region. He said:

“This charity has been with us for a very long time, Municipal sanitary facilitiesTCT now feels part of the family. Inspiration came years ago when a branch of the Teenage Cancer Trust opened where I live in Southampton. The proximity to our homeland has expressed much of our passion. We raised almost £15,000 in our region last year and I’m excited to see what we can achieve this year with all the activities planned.”
