The pavilion at Alumni Memorial Field has been in need of a new roof. It was decided that the proceeds from the 2024 Chicken Broil will be used for upgrades at Alumni Field. R.D. Kleinschmidt Co. was contacted to replace the roof, and they offered substantial savings if the old shingles were already removed. Kevin Fielder and Mike Coltre offered to take on the challenge to find the volunteers to make it happen.

On Saturday, April 13, at 8am, approximately 30 volunteers from the Chicken Broil and Men’s Club arrived at Alumni Memorial Field to prepare the pavilion for new shingles. After only two and a half hours, all the old shingles had been removed from the building, and by 1pm the building was finished, ready for shingles, and the cleanup complete. This couldn’t have been done without all the volunteers who took time out of their busy schedules to come and help out for a few hours. Many thanks also to Manchester Community Schools, Gary Bross, and Jim Mann who provided loaders to make the job even easier.

We are very fortunate to live in a community that comes together when there is a need. Many hands do make light work. We thank everyone for all the hard work on this project.
