A WORCESTERSHIRE fraudster who demanded money from a 74-year-old Fernhill Heath victim for roofing work never done has been sentenced to 26 weeks in prison.

Tommy Taylor, 31, of Sandy Lane, Stourport on Severn, has been convicted of fraud by misrepresentation after a trial.

Worcester Magistrates Court heard Taylor address the victim on November 12, 2022, demanding money for roofing work that was never done.

The entire incident was caught on surveillance camera due to previous fraudulent visits to the victim’s home. The victim’s son had installed the surveillance camera because he was concerned about his father’s exposure.

Taylor was identified by police and arrested in February.

He denied the offense in the interview, claiming he was sent to the address by other people who he believed completed the work.

The case went to Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday 5 June and Taylor was found guilty. In addition to prison, he was sentenced to pay a £150 victim’s allowance.

West Mercia Police Detective Constable Simon Lloyd said: “I am pleased with this verdict and hope it will offer some closure and reassurance to the victim and her family.”

“The criminal crackdown on vulnerable people in West Mercia will not be tolerated and we will explore all avenues to bring these offenders to justice.”

“This case is a shining example of how people’s homes can be protected through the use of home security cameras and I’m sure the evidence obtained played a very big part in the judges’ verdict.”
