It’s been all hands on deck for Premium Roofing Ltd. since Tuesday morning.

The Kelowna roofing company has had a busy week responding to more calls than usual after Monday night’s wind storm that saw gusts of 80 km/h rip through the valley.

<p dir=“We had people that were so upset they were crying,” co-owner Odell Burnett told KelownaNow. “Skylights and sun tunnels blew off roofs, water was pouring straight in, shingles were gone, that type of thing.”

Burnett estimates the company has done between 20 and 30 extra repairs than they’d usually do in just over three days since the storm hit.

<p dir=He noted one particularly tough situation where the sun tunnel blew off a home and left an exposed hole.

The woman’s husband was out of town, so she was left on her own with rain just pouring into her house.

While sometimes it’s not possible to guard against Mother Nature, Burnett said a maintenance package on your roof can help protect against this type of freak storm, along with having it installed properly to begin with.

<p dir=He explained that the life of a roof is close to 30 years, but plastic accessories and other similar materials on the roof can wear out after 15.

Premium Roofing Ltd. offers free inspections where they’ll take photos if there are deficiencies and give an estimate for a maintenance package, which you can decide whether to go forward with or not.

In the same breath, Burnett suggests people get their roof walked on before the snow hits while it’s still visible up there.
