SIDNEY — Sydney City Council on Tuesday approved work on Greenwood Cemetery’s south store.

In his presentation to the City Council, Parks and Cemetery Superintendent Tom von Segger said the south store is the Original Equipment Warehouse and Office at Greenwood Cemetery. The irrigation fountain is located at the south shop. A hatch is required in the roof for access for well repairs. Cemetery personnel have also noted leaks and damage to the store’s roof and ceiling. The original roof did not have a proper vapor barrier, resulting in moisture dripping off the underside of the roof.

City officials issued a request for proposal (RFP) in early February and sent a copy of the proposal to local roofing contractors, with no response by the March 7 deadline. RFPs were again sent out with a deadline of March 29th. The city received some inquiries but no returned offers. The employees then contacted four companies; two showed interest and one submitted an offer by the April 4 deadline.

The bidder from Weathercraft Companies of Ogallala, McCook and Brush, Colorado submitted a bid of $13,589, slightly less than the estimated $13,650.
