PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) – The application window is open for the FORTIFIED roofing program.

It was created by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, to help homeowners protect their property during hurricanes and other natural disasters.

People can receive up to $15,000 for a replacement roof or $7,500 for a newly constructed home.

This includes people in the Pine Belt and the Mississippi Gulf Coast area.

La’Keylah White with Housing Economic Resources & Education in Hattiesburg said there are currently about 30 slots open for those who are eligible.

“It has to be on a solid foundation, and the house has to be complete with the siding,” said White. “Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has a low-to-moderate income criteria per county, per household size, so they have to income qualify.

And of course, they have to own their home they live in.”
