Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Water Authority has liberalised the license for plumbers by relaxing the educational qualification and waiving a few conditions. Those who have received Kudumbasree’s self-employment programme and those who have training in pipe-related works using IT technology and have registered in startup missions will also be given licenses.
The contractors had demanded relaxation in the light of unavailability of adequate professionals which led to works remaining incomplete. The requirement of having experience under a licensed plumber has also been removed.
Examinations four times a year
Instead of the current qualifying test once a year, examination for license will be held four times a year. Applicants must appear for the examination within 35 days from the date of application.
Applications can be submitted within 14 days of notification. Hall-tickets will be made available through email, WhatsApp and website. Practical examinations will be supervised by concerned authorities within 10 days of the written examination.
