NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Despite the major risk of pipes bursting in frigid temperatures, plumbing companies in Nashville are experiencing a surge in calls related to heating.

Kyle Fletcher with Martin Cooling, Heating & Plumbing in Smyrna reports receiving 10 to 15 calls daily.

“Our dispatch can’t get off the phone,” he said. “It’s one after another after another.”

Fletcher anticipates that customers’ concerns will evolve in the coming days. Once the water supply resumes, leaky pipes may become apparent, resulting in an influx of calls for a new problem.

The company has shifted into emergency mode and increased its staff to handle calls. Fletcher advises taking proper precautions due to expected issues with bursting pipes.

”The main thing you hear about letting your faucets drip, opening your cabinets to expose a pipe to let your home’s heat get to the pipe,” he said. “That’s really all you can do.”

If your pipes burst, shut off the water and call a professional.
