“It’s been a journey to finally open the doors.”

Those are the words of the President and CEO of the Adult and Teen Challenge (ATC) in Central Canada, Daniel Emond.

After two successful years in Steinbach, the ATC offices and their mini second store have opened their doors in a new, much larger location further south along Main Street.

The original opening date for the not-so-small Super Thrift Store and ATC offices at 354 Main Street was July 1st. However, Emond explains that the delay in completing the renovations and completing the move was due to some plumbing issues in the 70-year-old building recently donated to ATC.

“We had a sewer line that broke, so we had to call an emergency excavator to open and repair the line. And we were so thankful for the plumbing company and the excavation company to come right away and do it for us.”

Emond says he’s extremely grateful that part is done, as the facility officially opened its doors on Monday, July 17.

“I’m grateful for all the prayers and work of the staff and volunteers and all of the local contractors who have worked really, really, really hard to open us up. I am very, very, very grateful.”

The staff and volunteers at ATC Super Thrift Steinbach are all beaming as the facility is now officially open.

He also thanks the carpenters and electricians and the Teen Challenge family who have worked particularly long, hard days over the past three weeks.

Emond notes that they’re still in the process of putting up shelves, unpacking all the donation boxes, and stocking the new Super Thrift store.

“But as we gain momentum and spend a little more time filling the shelves and racks completely, things will move forward, but our doors are definitely open.”

He says their goal was to use the donated space as efficiently as possible.

“So we decided to be frugal and move our Community Outreach Office and Ready-Now Recovery programs to the same building as the Super Thrift store. There are two separate entrances at the front of the building. The one on the left is the Community Outreach Office. So if you or someone you know is struggling, or you just need resources for someone struggling with addiction, or you just need someone to pray with you, or you need help, visit our Community Outreach Office.”

Emond continues, “The door on the right is the Adult and Teen Challenge Super Thrift store where you can find some great hidden gems and great deals where all proceeds go directly to funding the Adult and Teen Challenge Steinbach, at home on Westview Dr.”

Once again, Emond would like to thank the many people who helped make the move to 354 Main Street in Steinbach.

“There have been so many different people and a few local businesses that have made it really, really strong and you know from the bottom of your heart who you are, we couldn’t have done this without you. Therefore, I would like to thank all the craftsmen and companies who got involved and donated. I would like to thank everyone for helping make this dream a reality and for actually opening the Adult and Teen Challenge Super Thrift Store in Steinbach. We will be able to help many more people and fund our programs.”

The official opening of the new location is planned for later in August.

The ATC Super Thrift Store hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 6:00pm. Donations are always welcome.
