A plumbing company might not be the first type of business that comes to mind when hosting a business networking event, but Robert and Stephanie George of Vaquero Plumbing have changed that notion.

The couple, who started their business after moving to Liberty Hill in 2021, wanted to find a way to integrate into the community. This is how “Business 2 Business Liberty Hill” came about.

“We were new to the community, we have a three-year-old going to school, and we had a new venture,” said Stephanie George. “I thought, ‘Well nobody knows who we are and nobody else is doing an event like this, so let’s start hosting it.'”

The Georges decided to first ask local restaurants to work with them to host the events. The first event, held at Liberty Tavern in February, was beneficial to both the Georges and Liberty Tavern as it only recently opened, she said. More than 65 different companies were represented at the first event.

“We made a lot of connections just from that first event and I think Liberty Tavern and everyone who attended made connections,” she added.

The second event, held at the Agape BBQ this week, brought together more than 40 different companies and included a partnership with the Liberty Hill Chamber of Commerce and Agape. The Georges plan to host the networking events on a quarterly basis and hold them at various local restaurants and venues. A backpacking trip for needy students is also planned for the next event in August.

“After we moved here, I just thought, ‘We have to get out of there,'” Stephanie George said. “We knew there was no way we would get to know everyone in this small town if we didn’t add a face to our company’s name.”

Robert George said hosting such an event is important for attracting new customers for Vaquero Plumbing, as well as for the other participating and connected companies.

“When you commit to something like this and have the right intentions, work always follows,” he added. “We’re excited to see where this leads.”
