Progress for the Broad Street Market tent may be in the works in Harrisburg.

According to Matt Maisel, the director of communications for the City of Harrisburg, the city hosted a pre-bid meeting Wednesday morning for prospective plumbing contractors inside the tent.

One plumbing company and a representative with Gordian, a job-order contracting service provider were in attendance.

Harrisburg officials are hopeful that Gordian will work with one of the plumbing contractors through the Keystone Purchasing Network to submit a proposal.

However, there is no guarantee any bids will occur, according to Maisel.

Bids are due Jan. 25 at 11 p.m. and the city plans to unseal the bids on Jan. 26.

Harrisburg is also reportedly working with KCS Electric LLC on collecting required contract documents, but a contract has not yet been executed.

The news follows events from the Broad Street Market’s Board of Directors, which proposed a nearly double rent increase for vendors. The proposal would increase rent from $2.67 to $5.25 per square foot.

However, the proposal was temporarily suspended by board members after an outcry by vendors. “We have suffered financially, we want to stay in this community,” exclaimed Kelly Farner, owner of Doggie Delights, during the public comment portion of the meeting. “We feel like we’re expendable.”

The board says they will use the temporary suspension to explore other ways to make up the lost revenue, including persuading financial help from the city and possible deferred utility payments.
