Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric is ranked ninth in the Denver Post Top Workplaces’ Small Business category for 2023. This is the eleventh consecutive year that Applewood has received this award for excellence.

In addition to ninth place on-site, Applewood was recognized by Energage, the operator of the Top Jobs surveys, with the national Culture Excellence Award. This is the first time Applewood has received national recognition. Less than 3% of eligible organizations receive the national Top Workplaces award, making this achievement a clear differentiator within the business community.

“We are proud and honored that our company is recognized nationally for our efforts,” said Josh Ward, owner of Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric. “We value our employees because they embody our values every day and thus earn the trust of our customers. This award is a recognition of that commitment.”

Applewood was recognized in three categories: Leadership, Compensation and Benefits, Purpose and Values. The company demonstrates excellence and best practices in these three categories by instilling trust in its employees, valuing employees for their work contributions, and embedding their mission and values in their daily work and company culture.

A comprehensive survey is carried out to gain insights into the corporate culture from the employee’s point of view. With seven categories evaluating culture, work environment, performance, leadership, corporate values, compensation and more, Applewood received praise from its employees. After being selected as a Denver Post Top Workplaces recipient, the company was automatically considered for national recognition.

With more than 190 employees, Applewood offers its employees a safe, rewarding work environment and experience. Through a culture of camaraderie and growth, the company has implemented an apprenticeship program to ensure industry jobs continue to grow and remain a viable career choice. Applewood also depends on customer and employee feedback to continue improving its best practices.

“We’re grateful to have served homeowners for 50 years,” Ward said. “It takes diligence and teamwork to achieve such longevity. It’s nice to be recognized for all the hard work over the years in building a company that respects its people, our customers and the work we do.”

Applewood’s generosity also extends to the larger community as the company supports multiple community efforts and initiatives with its Caring Community Giveaway. This is a quarterly donation of US$5,000 to small, local non-profit organizations that are nominated by employees and selected through community voting. Other community involvements include scholarships to support vocational training at Red Rocks Community College, support of the Wheat Ridge High School Farmers 5000 and Littleton High School Lions 5k, the Furry Scurry of the Denver Dumb Friends League, and sponsorship of many youth sports teams along the frontlines Range .

Applewood is one of the few remaining truly family-run home repair businesses. “We help people” is a slogan that has been ingrained in the company since it was founded in 1973 and continues today as the company continues to grow and count the third generation among its employees. The company is celebrating its 50th anniversary and has served more than 300,000 customers.
