Your kitchen is likely a center for entertaining, and likely one of the biggest financial investments in your home, especially if you’ve opted for high-end appliances. When a major appliance or home system—such as the plumbing—breaks down, it can be an expensive inconvenience. A home warranty can offer you financial protection and the convenience of being connected with a vetted technician when an appliance or home system breaks down due to normal wear and tear.

After reviewing more than 35 providers, we’ve determined the best home warranty companies based on coverage terms, brand reputation, and other essential factors. We carefully combed through service contracts and went through the customer journey of requesting quotes to find the ideal home protection plans for high-end appliances.

Plans

American Home Shield (AHS) offers three home warranty plans, two of which cover home appliances. AHS earns the top spot on our list for high-end appliance coverage because its service contract does not exclude certain brand names, which can be common in the industry. AHS also provides generous coverage caps between $3,000 and $6,000 per covered item, which can help mitigate unnecessary replacement costs for big-ticket items. Additionally, AHS offers a flexible service call fee model that allows homeowners to customize their monthly fees.

ShieldSilver ($24.99–$39.99 per month): This plan covers 14 major systems

ShieldGold ($34.99–$49.99 per month): This plan covers home appliances, including built-in microwaves, instant hot/cold water dispensers, and laundry machines up to $3,000 per item.

ShieldPlatinum ($54.99–$69.99 per month): This plan covers all the items in the ShieldSilver and ShieldGold plans, plus roof-leak coverage, HVAC maintenance, and code upgrades. This plan also raises the coverage limit to $6,000 per item.

Its list of more than 35 add-ons includes uncommonly covered items such as pest control, window cleaning, and pro-series appliances. While many home warranty plans exclude commercial and professional-grade appliances, LHG allows home cooks to protect these items with its add-on coverage

Appliance Home Guard ($49.99 per month): This plan covers built-in microwave ovens, ceiling fans, clothes washers, clothes dryers, cooktops, dishwashers, exhaust fans, garage door openers, garbage disposals, ovens, ranges, and refrigerator with ice maker and displays up to $2,000 per item.

Our Recommendation

If you’ve invested in high-quality appliances for your home, it’s a sign that these items are important to you. Anything important is worthy of protection, regardless of your ability to afford the repair and replacement costs. Enrolling in a home warranty plan can take the hassle out of locating a qualified repair technician for your home’s essentials.

With American Home Shield, homeowners can enjoy the peace of mind of higher-than-average coverage caps and a long-standing industry reputation. AFC Home Warranty offers an unrivaled workmanship guarantee, and Liberty Home Guard provides an impressive array of options for additional coverage items. We recommend requesting a quote from at least three providers on this list and comparing their terms before making your final decision.

Do Home Warranties Cover High-End Appliance Replacement?

Some home warranties cover high-end appliances, and others do not. All the companies featured on this list offer comprehensive coverage for high-end appliances and a few of them don’t even differentiate between the brands they will service. Liberty Home Guard excludes high-end and professional series appliances from its base plans, but it does offer coverage as an add-on option.

It’s important to read the service contracts for all companies you’re interested in because the terms can vary state to state and appliance to appliance. Many companies have a clause in the contract that doesn’t guarantee a style, color, brand, or dimension match to your previous appliances.

Is a Home Warranty Worth It for High-End Appliances?

Yes, a home warranty can be worth it for high-end appliances because they are more expensive to replace, and it can be more difficult to find a qualified repair technician on short notice.

Do Any Home Warranties Cover Preexisting Conditions?

American Home Shield covers unknown preexisting conditions that can’t be detected through a simple mechanical or visual inspection. It also covers appliances that have been improperly modified or installed and items damaged by rust and corrosion. You can read the sample contract for more information on the covered repairs, exclusions, and limitations of the policy.

Do Home Warranties Cover Old Appliances?

Yes, home warranties cover old appliances. It’s uncommon for a home warranty to exclude items from coverage based on age, but the replacement value may be lower than a newer item. In these cases, the home warranty provider will provide a prorated coverage limit based on the depreciated value of the appliance. If the cost to replace your appliance exceeds this coverage limit, you will be issued a check you can use toward your new appliance purchase.

How We Chose the Top Home Warranty Providers

Our team reviewed and researched dozens of home warranty providers, thoroughly analyzed sample agreements, and identified customer pain points based on our analysis of customer reviews and interviews with industry experts. Our in-depth methodology outlines our review process to provide transparent information about the companies we review.

We determined that the following factors are the most important when comparing home warranty companies: available plans, plan coverage, price range, industry reputation, customer support, and additional features. Our research supported that plan coverage, customer service, and industry reputation should carry the most weight. While important, the other factors should not have as much influence when choosing a home warranty provider.
