WASHINGTON, NC — One person was injured Tuesday morning after a tree fell over the sleeper cabin of a trailer at the RV campground at Goose Creek State Park.

Beaufort County fire and rescue personnel and park wardens responded to the call around 1:12 a.m. Tuesday. The fallen tree injured an elderly woman and trapped two teenagers in the RV. The elderly woman was transported by emergency services to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment. The youths were freed from the motorhome by firefighters. They did not appear to be injured but were taken to ECU Health for medical evaluation.

The incident happened as late-night storms brought heavy rain and winds to the area. The Beaufort County Emergency Services estimated about 1,000 homes were without power at any given time during the storms, and most of those outages were resolved by 3 a.m
