Langley has several options for live Christmas tree disposal

Youth groups and others host chipping starting in late December and running into early January

The close of the holiday season brings with it one final duty – disposal of the cut Christmas tree – and local groups are ready to help with the task.

• 1st Walnut Grove Scout Group: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 6, the group will host tree chipping by donation at Walnut Grove Secondary, 8919 Walnut Grove Dr. Neighbourhood pick-up service is available for a minimum $10 donation. Book a pickup at treepickup@1stwalnutgrovescouts.ca. Info: 604-720-4805. Bottles accepted for drop-off at Jan. 6 event.

• 2nd Brookswood Scouts with 1st Fort Langley Venturers: By-donation tree chipping and bottle drive will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 6 and 24, at Brookswood Secondary, 20902 37A Ave.

• D.W. Poppy After-Grad: Chipping and bottle drive are at 23752 52nd Ave. on Saturday, Jan. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trees can be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Neighbourhood pick-up can be arranged for Friday evening or early Saturday. • Chipping fundraiser: Langley Food Bank receives donations from a chipping event hosted by realtor Tim Keis from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6 at Willoughby Elementary, 20766 80th Ave. By donation.

• Tree chipping and bottle drive: From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., people can drop off trees and bottles at Alex Hope Elementary, 21150 85th Ave., at an event to fundraise for the Fraser Valley Fusion09A – Appleton and Xtreme06 ball teams.

• Tree chipping and bottle drive: Langley City paid on-call firefighters host an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 7, at 20297 Fraser Hwy. Minimum $10 donation per tree. Cash donations and bottle/cans accepted. Rendezvous Pub cooking hot dots and hamburgers. Food and drink by donation. All proceeds shared between Mamas for Mamas, and the City on-call firefighters charities.

• Walnut Grove Secondary fundraiser: Realtor Kelly Hagen, Taryn Guiel Real Estate Team and Arbor Pro Tree Services Ltd. host chipping by donation to benefit WGSS. Chipping is at the school, 8919 Walnut Grove Dr., from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Jan. 7.

• Christmas tree disposal fundraiser: Drive-thru set up for by-donation disposal is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7, at Langley Fundamental Elementary, 21789 50th Ave.. Murrayville Plumbing and Ethos Landscaping donating proceeds to Copper for Kids non-profit foundation.

Groups hosting tree chipping or disposal events in Langley can submit the details to datebook@langleyadvancetimes.com to be included in this list.

• Homes with City or Township municipal green waste collection may have curbside collection.

• People can take their trees to a transfer station, which have disposal fees.

All ornaments and decoration must be removed from trees before they can be taken to chipping events or transfer stations or put at the curb for municipal disposal.
