ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) – A man is dead after his car crashed into a tree off I-75 this morning.
Ohio State Highway Patrol soldiers say Randy Thompson Jr., 22, was killed in the accident. He lost control of his car while attempting to overtake another vehicle as they both headed south, just north of the Breese Road exit. His car went off the right side of the road and hit a tree and fence next to the Lima Harley Davidson dealership. Lima soldiers believe Thompson was speeding at the time of the crash. The Soldiers were assisted at the scene by the Shawnee Community Fire Department.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Press Release: Community of Shawnee – The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal, single-vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 75 near Breese Road in Allen County.
On March 27, 2023, at approximately 9:57 a.m., a 2010 Ford Focus, operated by Randy E. Thompson Jr., 22, of Lima, was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 and went off the right side of the lane and struck on a fence and a tree.
Mr. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Hanneman-Siferd Funeral Home by H&H Funeral Services.
Speed appears to have been a factor in the crash. Mr Thompson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The Lima Post was assisted by the Shawnee Township Fire and EMS, Minich’s Towing, H&H Funeral Services and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to consider road conditions when driving in adverse weather conditions.
