WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council approved a contract to allow the removal of dozens of trees along Market Street on Tuesday night.

The $113,650 contract was awarded to Lanier Tree Services from the city’s Parks and Recreation budget.

The project calls for the removal of 31 trees from various locations of the city.

The trees selected for removal have been designated by the Urban Forestry staff as dead or dying and high risk to the public.

Once the work begins, it should take about four weeks to complete. Tree replacement, where appropriate, will occur during the planting season in the spring and fall of 2024.
