ROCHESTER, Minn. – An attempt Thursday afternoon to cut down a large tree left several houses in danger.

The Rochester Fire Department says it discovered around 1:50 pm that a tree service had unsuccessfully tried to cut down a large tree, leaving it in a precarious state and in danger of falling on several nearby homes.

Firefighters quickly established a perimeter to keep people away from the dangerous situation and contacted Rochester Parks and Rec – Forestry Division.  The city department then recommended Hathaway Tree Service to complete the removal of the tree by using a bucket truck.

The Rochester Fire Department says there were no injuries or damage in this incident.  With emerald ash borer killing many trees and property owners looking to have them removed, the City of Rochester has a list of qualified and insured tree services as a reference when hiring a tree care company.
