James Watson Tree Services collected the used Christmas trees from Carlisle and its surrounding villages in January, with their effort raising £450 for Eden Valley Hospice.

This was the first year that the business had collected local Christmas trees following the conclusion of the festive period, however, James Watson, the company’s owner, was on hand to explain how it wouldn’t be the last.

He said: “This is my first year. I had seen that other tree surgeons in the past had done it and I thought it would be good and it is all for a good cause.

“I just wanted to do it for a local charity and obviously it is a very good cause and it is nice to be able to do something for something local.

“We gave it a go this year and I was really surprised by how successful it was. I am hoping to raise a lot more next year – and Eden Valley Hospice is more than happy for us to do it again.”
