CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Dollar Tree plans to lay off “less than 90” employees at its Summit Pointe headquarters in Chesapeake, a company spokesman confirmed to 10 On Your Side on Monday.

The business opened in Hampton Roads in 1986 and currently employs an estimated more than 1,000 people in our area.

The reason given for the layoffs is that the company wants to establish an outsourced model for its enterprise contact center.

Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) Alerts website. indicates that affected employees will be affected by June 23. Those employees will receive transitional support, including severance pay and outplacement benefits, the spokesman said.

Dollar Tree Inc. is a Fortune 200 company with discount stores throughout North America and five Canadian provinces.

In 2021, the company announced that items that traditionally sold for $1 would now cost $1.25.
