Animal control officers and local fire crews joined together Saturday evening to rescue an osprey that was entangled in fishing line and stuck in the top of a tree in Brielle, officials said.

The animal control officers from Associated Humane Tinton Falls were the first to arrive on the scene around 5 p.m., according to a Facebook post from the Tinton Falls-based animal shelter.

“The osprey was struggling and hanging upside down, it would soon be getting dark, and the height was unreachable,” the shelter said. “We reached out to several tree services with no luck, Brielle Fire department doesn’t have a ladder truck but thankfully South Wall Fire Department came to the rescue!!”

The department took one of the animal control officers up in the bucket and he was able to free the bird, the group said. It was taken a rehabilitation center to treat its wing, which was dislocated during the ordeal, officials said. The osprey will remain at the center to heal.
