STEUBENVILLE — Jefferson County Adult Protective Services is making preparations for its annual Senior Giving Tree program for seniors in Jefferson County.

“The purpose of the senior giving tree is to try and help seniors 60 or older, living in their own home, who may not have friends or family around during the holidays,” explained Marie Holt, representative of the protective service’s department.

Anyone who would like to submit a request for a senior will need to have the forms turned in to the Jefferson County Department of Job and Family Services by Nov. 22.

Holt stated officials will number the applications and place them on an angel.

The angels will be placed on one of three trees the county will put up for the holidays.

Those wishing to adopt a senior to shop for can take a name from one of the trees, Holt said.

“We are asking the community to return the gifts and the angel tag to Job and Family Services by Dec. 15 so they can be wrapped and delivered for Christmas,” she added.

“When people are submitting a request for a senior, they need to have the senior’s name, phone number, address and items they may need, such as clothing, toiletries and some of their interests in order to help the people who will be shopping for them,” Holt said.

The senior angel trees will be at the Job and Family Services office, located at 125 S. Fifth St.; the Fort Steuben Mall, located at 100 Mall Drive; and First Westminster Presbyterian Church’s Our Place, located at 235 N. Fourth St.
