AVA: IT IS THE SEASON FOR CHRISTMAS TREES BEING MADE IF YOU NEED TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE THEM LAST LONGEST, WE ARE HERE WITH CARRIE ENGEL. WE ARE IN THE SECTION WHERE YOU HAVE LIVING TREES. SOME PEOPLE CHOOSE THAT AS AN OPTION, THEY ARE PLANNING TO PLANTED ANYWAYS. CARRIE: IT’S A GREAT IDEA. YOU HAVE TO DO SOME FORWARD THINKING. GO AHEAD AND DIG THAT HOLE BEFORE THE GROUND FREEZES. AVA: HOW BIG? CARRIE: YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT HOW BIG THE ROOT SYSTEM IS. YOU WANT TO GO AS DEEP AS THAT IS, NO DEEPER, BUT A LITTLE BIT WIDER TO GET THE ROOTS GOING. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BRING THIS TREE INSIDE, YOU WILL NOT HAVE IT IN VERY LONG. AVA: IT LIKES THE COLD WEATHER. IF IT IS GOING TO GO INDOORS FOR A LIVING TREE, NOT FOR VERY LONG. AVA: IF SOMEONE DECIDES TO GET A FRESH-CUT TREE, HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE IT LAST LONGEST? CARRIE: MAKE SURE IT HAS A FRESH-CUT. IF IT IS NOT FRESH-CUT, CUT IT YOURSELF, AND THEN GIVE IT WATER. TREATED LIKE FLOWERS, ALMOST EVERY DAY. AVA: I HAVE A TIMER ON MY PHONE TO REMIND ME. IT IS SO EASY TO FORGET. CARRIE: IT IS HORRIFIC TO HAVE ALL OF THOSE NEEDLES DROPPING. YOU COULD USE A PRODUCT LIKE THIS. I USE THIS ON MY WREATHS AND GREENS MORE. THIS STOPS THE PROCESS OF THE NEEDLES FALLING DOWN. AVA: KEEPS THE MOISTURE IN. WHETHER YOU ARE GOING FOR A FRESH-CUT OR LIVING TREE, JUST WATER IT. AVA: PLAN AHEAD. THAT IS AHEAD ON — THAT IS TODAY’S SUNDAY GARDENER. JENNIFER: AND IF YOU WOULD LI
