BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) — Work has begun on a partial roof replacement and building’s HVAC system at Simpson Elementary School in Bridgeport.

Harrison County Schools assistant superintendent of transportation and facilities Jimmy Lopez said that while the work is now being felt, work began earlier this year.

“The contractors did part of the roof on Simpson, which was really an emergency. “It was completed over the Easter break, with the plan to set up her berth, get the supplies, and start work right after school,” Lopez said. “That’s what you see now.”

The work is part of a contract valued at $1,642,106. Additional costs arise from the addition of HVAC controls, building automation, and other utilities.

“They’re working on it right now, with the goal of getting it done before August 1,” Lopez said.

The Simpson Elementary work is part of what Lopez says will cost $24 million in roofing and HVAC work. This includes roof work at Robert C. Byrd High School, Liberty High School and Bridgeport Middle School.
