We’re into the final week of the regular season for Girls Volleyball matches, and the division leaders are all but set.

In Division I-A, North Kingstown enters the week at 13-1, and over in Div. I-B, Chariho is 12-2, with Coventry hot on the Chargers’ heels at 11-3. In Division II, East Providence has yet to stumble, at 13-0 in league play, with Mt. Hope (12-1) and Cumberland (11-2) chasing the Townies.

In Division III-A, Tiverton sits atop the standings at 10-4, and in Div. III-B, Tolman is in first place at 11-2. In Division IV, Shea High School suffered its first loss of the season last week, to Hope, but still holds on firmly to the top spot, at 14-1.

So who will be this week’s Storm Works Roofing Athlete of the Week in Girls Volleyball? There were plenty of contenders to become nominees last week and narrowing it down to just 5 players was no easy feat. Here are the players who rose to the top.

Karmen Lambert, South Kingstown

Lambert recorded 15 kills, 5 digs and 6 aces in a hard-fought win over Prout. The senior played a big role in helping SK notch back-to back wins last week as the 8-6 Rebels will face La Salle and North Kingstown to finish the regular season.

Casey Weaver, Lincoln

Weaver recorded 16 kills and 4 aces in a 3-2 win over Exeter-West Greenwich, helping the Lions get above the .500 mark early last week. Lincoln dropped its next match against North Smithfield in five sets and will end the regular season this week with games at Westerly, and hosting Cranston West.

Sarah Wilcox, Mt. Hope

Wilcox recorded 14 kills and 9 digs as the Huskies went five games before finishing with a win over North Smithfield last week — Mt. Hope’s ninth in a row, keeping the Huskies hot on the heels of division leading East Providence. Mt. Hope went on to down Juanita Sanchez later in the week, and will finish the regular season at Cranston West, then host Barrington.

Kenzie Cleary, Burrillville

Cleary led the way with a stellar 22 kills and 4 blocks to push the Broncos past Division III-leading Tolman, 3-2, last week. The victory lifted Burrillville to a 7-3 record as it handed the Tigers only their second loss of the season. The Broncos topped Toll Gate later in the week and have three more contests this week to end the regular season.

Taliyah Pereira, Classical

Pereira turned in a dominant performance with a whopping 18 kills and as many digs in a 3-0 victory over Cranston East last week. The Purple will end their regular season with games this week at East Greenwich, then host Mount St. Charles.
