Standing seam is the best for you compared to other roofing materials Colorado at home, as it does the most to cool your home, lasts the longest, is most durable and has the lowest long-term cost.

GREELEY, Colorado., June 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Every year, Coloradons read headlines about record-breaking temperatures. And every year, more and more people are looking for ways to make their homes as energy efficient as possible. This quest also includes a cool roof. That means a roof that will help cool your home during the hot summer months.

In light of global warming, we decided to research and collect data on the roofing materials available to us Coloradons and which are the coolest.

The coolest roofing material is that with a thermal emissivity and solar reflectance close to 1.0. Asphalt shingles are the most popular roofing material. Most manufacturers make cool EnergyStar rated shingles. These cool shingles offer the highest heat output at 0.90. However, they offer the lowest solar reflectivity of 0.15 to 0.25. Unfortunately, for us Colorado residents, these shingles are not available without special delivery.

Concrete tiles also offer a high level of heat dissipation. However, at just 0.22, their solar reflectivity is on a par with asphalt shingles. Clay tiles offer better solar reflectance at 0.43, although this is nowhere near as good as tin roofs. Tin roofs such as standing seam and corrugated metal/PBC are best for cooling your home. Regardless of colour, these have a solar reflectance of 0.67 and a heat output of 0.85. And there are dozens of colors available.

The only thing you like about a tin roof is that it helps cool your home. Unlike traditional asphalt shingles, metal is also recyclable. A metal roof also lasts two to three times longer than traditional asphalt shingles. This is because it is significantly more durable than asphalt shingles. As a result, a metal roof often costs less than most other roofing materials. Finally, tin roofs are much more resistant to hail, fire and high winds than most other roofs.

If you are looking for a new roof, consider metal. In addition to tin roofs, we also offer stone-coated metal shingles. Although these are not energy efficient, they last significantly longer than asphalt shingles and still look like traditional clapboard, clapboard or tile. Funding is available for those interested.
