SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The South Charleston City Council said it received a bid for emergency repairs for its roof, which demolished the City Hall building.

The strong weekend winds on Saturday April 1st blew off the roof of City Hall and damaged parts of the surrounding area. City Hall was closed for part of the week.

During their Thursday afternoon session, the City Council voted to approve Tri-State Roofing’s bid. The roofing company will begin repairs to the roof at an asking price of $174,925.

Mayor Frank Mullens said he was blown away by how quickly local authorities cleared the area on Saturday after the roof came down.

“Three hours and 10 minutes later all the debris was cleared and hauled away, insurance was called, contractors were called, everything was done in about three hours,” Mullens said Thursday.

Mullens continued, “It was just an amazing effort.”
