UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A body was found Monday morning by a roofer in an Upshur County apartment building.

Upshur County Sheriff’s Deputies were responding to a cadaveric visit to an apartment building at Block 2400 of Airstrip Road in southwest Upshur County.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office said members of the roofers arrived at the scene to do an on-site job and found the body, which was identified as Timothy Allen Caffey, 66, of Gilmer.

Officials said the house he was found in was his own residence.

“Evidence at the scene strongly suggests that Mr. Timothy Caffey was the victim of homicide,” the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators learned Caffey shared his residence with his son Michael Timothy Caffey, 45, of Gilmer, officials said.

The sheriff’s office issued a Region 1 bulletin to law enforcement in Northeast Texas to notify Upshur County if Michael was found.

In the early afternoon, the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office contacted Upshur County and said they found Michael in a Liberty City neighborhood. Local residents contacted the sheriff’s office because Michael was reportedly wandering the streets and entering a residential lot.

Gregg County said they had a misdemeanor warrant out for Michael.

Upshur County officials responded to the scene to speak with Michael, and investigators said they found evidence linking him to the murder.

He was taken to the Gregg County Jail on a misdemeanor warrant while Upshur County investigators received a murder warrant.

“Mr. Michael Caffey will be transferred to the Upshur County Jail in the near future,” the sheriff’s office said.
