A Scarborough-based roofer was caught illegally dumping roofing material on the property of a MacTier resident on June 1.

A number of speeding tickets have been issued to AJ Home Improvement Inc. by Bracebridge OPP, according to a Facebook post by Steve Schell, the local resident on whose property the rubble was dumped.

Bracebridge OPP did not respond to multiple requests for clarification on the charges filed.

“Just another great example of the benefits of small town living. Everyone takes care of each other,” said Schell. “Thanks to cameras and some great friends, they were filmed in a matter of hours.”

According to Schell, the contractor drove through the gate of his home into his yard, where he unloaded roofing material from a nearby construction site.

Schell contacted the contractor, who later returned to manually pick up the debris. upon their arrival Schell used his tractor to lift the company’s truck and hold it down until the OPP arrived.

Linda Holder paid AJ Home Improvement Inc. $9,500 for roofing work that would also include proper trash disposal and landfilling.

According to Holder, the contractor’s work was incomplete and a retaining wall to her son’s bedroom was damaged. She is now in a legal battle with the company to recover her costs.

This is the latest in a string of lawsuits for AJ Home Improvement Inc. as they arrived at the wrong job site earlier in the week and ripped apart the roof of an unsuspecting resident’s apartment building.

AJ Home Improvement Inc. did not respond to a request for comment.
