Disney’s BoardWalk has been undergoing an overall refurbishment for the past few years. During a recent visit to Walt Disney World, we decided to stop by and check out its progress.
The Cake Bake Shop
While visiting Disney’s BoardWalk today, we noticed workers were present, continuing progress on The Cake Bake Shop, which is now looking to open in early 2024.
One crew member was working on the lower roof. Metal strips are currently being applied to wrap around the lower portion, likely to match the upper roof.
Since our last update, walls have gone up around the upper portion of The Cake Bake Shop roof, and blue sheathing has been applied.
Wiring has also begun in this upper portion.

One crew member had on a welding helmet, presumably doing welding work on this portion of the roof.
This side of the upper roof still needs to have blue sheathing applied.
A blue cherry picker is staged behind the construction walls, to help crews move from one portion of the roof to the other.
This crew member appeared to be sawing metal for the lower roof portion.
Disney’s BoardWalk
At BoardWalk Deli, crews were present working on the sign.
In September 2023, scaffolding around the restaurant came down after initially going up in August.
During our visit, crews appeared to be working on the white rim that runs around the BoardWalk Deli sign.
Since our last update, the red and white striped awnings returned above the windows and entrance.
Disney’s BoardWalk Refurbishment
Disney’s BoardWalk has been undergoing an overall refurbishment over the past few years. The BoardWalk Bakery closed to make way for the BoardWalk Deli. In December 2022, the new Carousel Coffee shop and seating area opened, replacing Dundy’s Sundries, which closed permanently in October. Decorations continued to be added over the following weeks.
The lobby of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn was remodeled earlier this year with minimal changes.
Trattoria al Forno and the Pizza Window temporarily closed while crews worked on the guest room balconies above. A new Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs location will take over the BoardWalk To Go kiosk.
