It looks like the thatched roof of the new covered seating area in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom is almost complete. Construction began back in June 2023 and crews started adding thatching last month.

The thatching covers most of the larger roof and the two dormer rooves sticking out of it, which face the sidewalk. Only a strip of brown roof decking on the top steam of the roof is not yet covered in thatching.

The dormer roofs look straight into the structure — we can see some of the supports for the other side of the roof. The visible supports resemble sticks found in nature but they’re actually painted steel.

The seating will serve the nearby Harambe Market, Tamu Tamu Refreshments, and Zuri’s Sweets Shop. Harambe Village is the fictional town that acts as the setting of the Africa section, which is also home to Kilimanjaro Safaris and Festival of the Lion King. Africa is located between Asia and Pandora – The World of “Avatar.”

Thatching extends down the sides of the building below the gable roof. The lamppost behind the construction walls on this side was already part of the area’s theming.
